Volunteers at La Casa

On January 9, 2018, La Casa de Maria and its Center for Spiritual Renewal sustained substantial damage in the severe mud and debris flow that followed the Thomas Fire. For now, our volunteer efforts are directed toward rebuilding and renewal. If you’d like to lend a hand, click here.

vol-lunc-hi-res-cropped-8-12-webLa Casa de Maria invites you to share your passion and talents as a La Casa de Maria volunteer. The mission of the volunteers is “caring for La Casa’s sacred space and offering hospitality to all who come.”

Volunteers are an integral part of La Casa de Maria. We rely upon the talents and contributions of volunteers to assist with different activities, including welcoming guests, helping to host a special event, providing public outreach, assisting in our office or in our gift and book shop, Real Things. Other volunteers enjoy helping tend the sacred spaces in our garden patios or helping out in our certified organic vegetable garden and fruit orchard. We hope one of those tasks will appeal to you.
In 2013, volunteers provided many hours of service. This support greatly helps La Casa to provide more resources to our guests and to preserve the beautiful sanctuary for the community and groups we serve.

Workweekend-vols-webEach of us has our own unique ways to give-back. Some of us prefer to work alone and some of us enjoy working with a small team. We have opportunities for those who prefer to have a specific schedule and for others who prefer a more flexible format for themselves.
Do you have a few hours a week, or each month, that you would like to offer to enhance the retreat work of La Casa?

Special Volunteer Events

Volluncheon-webEach year our volunteers are honored at a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. Volunteers gather together with staff for an afternoon garden party of fun, feasting, and festivity.

Twice each year, in Spring and Autumn, both La Casa de Maria Retreat Center and The Center for Spiritual Renewal, coordinate a Garden and Work Weekend in which La Casa friends come together alongside staff to tend the gardens and orchards and add special touches to the sacred grounds. You can find the dates for these weekends on the Program calendar.

How to Get Started Volunteering:
Apply online by downloading (in Word or in PDF) and filling out our Volunteer Application. On receipt of the application, our Volunteer Coordinator, Shawne Mitchell, will contact you to set up a brief phone interview and send you a listing of current volunteer opportunities. After you have selected a volunteer area of interest and a time frame for your assignment, she will set up with you an in-person interview.

Please note: La Casa does not have any volunteer opportunities that involve on-site housing.
