Program Leader
Father Daniel Horan

Thomas Merton reawakened the Western world to the power of silence and introspection.  During his personal interfaith pilgrimage, he met with the Dalai Lama, D.T. Suzuki, and Thich Nhat Hanh. The author of books on Zen and Taoism, he was a passionate advocate for social justice. As he journeyed to Asia in 1968, one of the last places he stayed was at La Casa de Maria.  This retreat will explore his contribution to the engaged spiritual life in our postmodern world, led by one of his newest interpreters, Dan Horan.

Dan Horan, OFM, is a Franciscan Friar, theologian, and spiritual writer and speaker. He serves on the International Thomas Merton Society Board of Directors and is the author of The Franciscan Heart of Thomas Merton: A New Look at the Spiritual Influence of His Life, Thought, and Writing.
