This two-session class will integrate several art techniques and media choices (Acrylic and Watercolor Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Collage, Text, and Gold Leaf). You’ll incorporate photographs you take at La Casa de Maria during one of the most beautiful times of year: the cusp of spring. We’ll create striking mixed-media pieces that reveal discoveries made during your photographic “ginkgo walk” – a Japanese tradition for discovering natural beauty.
NO PHOTOGRAPHIC TRAINING OR EXPERTISE IS NECESSARY – all you need is a smart phone with a camera, or any camera of your choice. This workshop will be a trajectory point for new directions in personal art making, with many opportunities for exciting and original creative expression.
This program has two sessions – one on March 1 and one on March 8; both are full days (with or without lunch provided) and both are part of the same program.
Here is a more detailed program description from Joni:
This two-part class is a joyful exploration of beauty and metaphor—a wonderful opportunity to learn and apply MIXED MEDIA ART TECHNIQUES. We’ll use a variety of papers (from semi-transparent tissues to watercolor and printing papers), paints (watercolor and acrylic), printing materials (including a NEW alternative to the gelatin plate that is especially created for using acrylic paints), and small hand-carved stamps for repeated design motifs. We’ll add gold leaf and other embellishments to selected projects.
Demonstrated projects include:
The real star of the show is a dedicated block of time to take photographs at La Casa de Maria during this beautiful season. I will provide you with mini-assignments that feel like a visual scavenger hunt. All you need is a smart phone or iPad that takes photos OR the camera of your choice. You do NOT need to be a photographer! Your images will be beautiful – I promise! I’ll share photographic techniques and approaches that you can apply in other situations and settings.
All materials are supplied, and we’ll work in a lovely space at La Casa – one of my favorite locations with an adjoining patio and immediate proximity to beautiful areas.
Our group is limited to 16 participants.
Joni Chancer has facilitated art workshops nationally and internationally for over 20 years, inviting participants to discover, render, and celebrate the inspirational beauty of the natural world.
