Program Leader
Perie Longo

Note: This program has been canceled.

Perie Longo will offer a workshop for elementary grade teachers to help put fun and magic into the required poetry unit. She will share lesson plans and ideas that work for different grade levels, including how to inspire your students to love poetry, value their own way of speaking, and take the fear out of the blank page. Come prepared to write and think outside the box.  Bring along your inner child!  Because, as one of Perie’s fourth grade students said: “Poetry is better than Disneyland!”

Perie Longo, PhD, MFT and Registered Poetry Therapist has been facilitating writing workshops for over twenty years with Hospice of Santa Barbara, Sanctuary Psychiatric Centers, and the Cancer Center. For thirty years she has been a poetry teacher with California-Poets-in-the-Schools (CPITS), and was the  Santa Barbara Poet Laureate Emerita (2007-09).  In 2005 she was invited to the University of Kuwait to speak on “Poetry as a Path to Peace” and is poetry chair of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation of Santa Barbara.
