This workshop starts on Friday afternoon at 4 pm and includes dinner on Friday night.  It continues again on Saturday from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm and includes lunch. Both sessions are part of the same program.

Inspired by the beauty of the October moon and La Casa’s landscape, we’ll create three art pieces using sketching, painting, and printmaking techniques:

Play in the fall leaves!  We’ll gather and print leaves in multiple, overlapping layers using acrylic, watercolor, and gesso while exploring layout and composition; color harmonies; and positive and negative shape.  The result is an abstract piece that’s rich in texture and visual complexity – achieved with surprisingly simple techniques.

Capture the moon! Remember the last time you looked up through fall’s bare branches and spied the moon? For this piece, you’ll sketch the silhouette of a tree, and then use that drawing to cut a foam printing plate to create intricate lines and shadowy shapes.  The final multi-colored layered print will include the October moon shining through the branches.

Illuminate the night sky! In this project, you’ll paint a cloud-filled sky glowing with the light of a full moon. You’ll learn various painting techniques including layering, blending, and scumbling. As you create this dramatic skyscape, you’ll experiment with coloration and atmospheric perspective to add light, depth, and mood that can be applied to any landscape.

Illuminate the night sky_JC_1015No previous art experience is necessary.  If you are new to drawing, painting, and printmaking you’ll be introduced to techniques at a beginning level.  Experienced artists will use advanced applications.  All supplies are provided.

Joni Chancer and Gina Rester-Zodrow have facilitated art workshops nationally and internationally for over 20 years, inviting participants to discover, render, and celebrate the inspirational beauty of the natural world.
